Early Medieval period (5th-6th centuries) (amphorae from the Black Sea)

This amphorae is of special interest due to the fact that the letters X M G which are inscribed in red paint have been preserved, and these letters correspond to the abbreviated expression “Xriston Maria Genna”, which can be translated as “Maria conceived Christ”

This was one of Nestorianism landmarks, a religious doctrine which Christianity labelled heretic. According to that doctrine, Christ was the son of a woman and had two different natures, one Divine and another one human.

Therefore, as well as being used for commercial reasons, this amphora transported ideas.
